At WestHealth Direct Lab Access, certain lab tests are available without a physician's order. Direct Lab Access may be of particular interest to those patients whose health plans do not cover routine or screening tests.

Direct Lab Access tests include:

• Cholesterol (total)
• Complete blood count
• Complete urinalysis
• Flu screen (in season)
• Glucose
• Hemoglobin
• Lipid profile
• TSH
• Urine drug screen
• Urine pregnancy testing

Scheduling

No appointment is necessary; simply register at the Laboratory front desk, where they select the test(s) you want from the Direct Lab Access menu. An adult must accompany minors under 18 years of age.

Test results

A lab technician will collect blood or urine samples from you, depending on the test(s) you choose. Test results will be completed within two to 24 hours and may be picked up or delivered to you by mail. All results are confidential. No test results are sent to physicians, employers or insurers.

When you use Direct Lab Access, you assume responsibility for your health and agree to contact a doctor if you have questions about your test results, receive abnormal results or feel unwell.

A normal result does not guarantee that you do not need medical attention; likewise, an abnormal result does not always indicate disease. Your current health and complete medical history must be considered when evaluating your health status.

If any of your lab results fall into PANIC ranges, we will contact you immediately and recommend that you contact your doctor as soon as possible. If you do not have a physician, we can recommend one or send you to WestHealth Urgent Care.

Payment

All Direct Lab Access tests must be paid for at the time of service with cash, check, Visa, Discover, American Express or MasterCard. We do not file insurance claims or send bills for these services.
