Physiatry (also called physical medicine and rehabilitation) includes the diagnosis and treatment of patients with musculoskeletal, neurologic or other body systems impairments or disabilities. Physiatrists provide rehabilitative treatment for patients who have experienced a catastrophic injury such as stroke, spinal cord injury or brain injury. They focus on restoring physical, psychological, social and vocational function as well as alleviating pain.
